Lenovo sells SSD drives for the T420, but in the same way any decent SATA hard drive works in a T420, so also will any decent SSD drive. Get a good quality drive (vastly more important than cheap) and make sure you can return it.

Intel make good SSD drives and there are other makers as well.

Standard 500 GB HDD / 7200 rpm .
Interface Serial ATA-300

Any 300 series SATA 2.5inch SSD
(depending how much storage space you require & how much your willing to spend)

If you want SSD performance at HDD prices, then consider Solid State Hybrid Drive series:

Samsung SSD drives are considered to be good. Check it that the drive supports trim technology before you buy one.

"What is trim technology? "

TRIM allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally.

TRIM believed to prolong the lifecycle of the ssd drive plus increase the speed of the drive as the pages which are marked as empty will be maintained automatically instead overwriting them during write access.
