What are the specifics of the problem?  What are you trying to do?  What is the failure?  What messages are you getting?

...or it could be an issue with file assocciation, does it try to save the document instead of opening it?
If yes then right click the file and set it to open with Office 2003.

Hi sivahw,

Some time ago I had the exact same problem.

1 I fixed this by running a repair on Office 2003.

Alternatives:
2. Try opening an other xlsx. If this works it only means that the converter is having a problem with that particular excel sheet.
So open the "problem" excel in google Docs en convert it to a regular xls.

An other Alternative
Check if the pc has "Microsoft XML parser 6.0". If not install it ;)

Before you do anything. Try downloading the xls on your local harddisk and renaming it to test.xlsx

If that works it probably is having a problem with the file name. (or the rights of your temp location... but thats probably not it)

(following on ThomasEcht's post): the other advantage of downloading it first (whether or not you rename it) and then opening it is that you isolate the two events.  That is, you will find out if there is a problem with downloading or if it is with opening the file once you have it.  I've seen plenty of problems with attachments resolved by downloading them first.
