question about windows XP user account names

Hi I installed windows XP on a laptop and I mistyped the customers name when I typed in the user account name- i want to be able to change the name if possible. I went into the control panel and successfully changed the name to the correct spelling, however when I go to MY COMPUTER > DOCS AND SETTINGS I still see the old (incorrect) spelling. Can I change the spelling in this location some how?
4 Solutions
best step....take the backup of the user account using administrator account....delete the older account and restart the system......and login again using the new account name

No, you can't change that without corrupting the profile.  To change the name seen in DOCS AND SETTINGS you have to create a new account with the proper spelling.
It is possible, I've done it before and the path I took was very similar to what is documented here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/userpath.htm

You probably won't need sidlist.vbs, there should only be a few SIDs there and you can verify the correct one by checking the ProfileImagePath key.  No biggie.
You can rename the folder.
login to the machine with user credentials ,your new profile will be created and copy your data from old profile to new profile.
