How to transfer AutoCAD license and upgrade at same time?

We have 22 seats on subscription with AutoCAD and right now 'most' seats are running AutoCAD 2010.

We have just purchased 15 new laptops for our design department.  In setting up these laptops we would like to move from AutoCAD 2010 to 2013.

In reading about the license transfer utility, it is pretty specific that you can only transfer from and to the same version of AutoCAD.

How can I transfer licenses and upgrade the machines from 2010 to 2013 at the same time.  If it cannot be done at the same time, what is best practice for doing this?

Thanks...

If you have a subscription from Autodesk then all you would need to do is activate those 15 laptops, as long as they will replace the other workstations. The subscription allows you to have 22 seats for the current version of the software (2013) plus the previous 3 versions (2012. 2011, 2010). This does not allow you to install the software on 22 computers for one version (2013) and a different 22 computers for a different version (2012).

if you have any questions about what you can and can not do the best resource is to contact your Autodesk Value Added Reseller (VAR).

So I don't need to do anything to deactivate the install on the old laptop beyond simply uninstalling the version that is on there?

Correct. As long as you are decommissioning the older laptops by uninstalling the software, then you will not need to perform a license transfer. A license transfer is really only intended on transferring that license to a different workstation for that version of the software only, not for newer instances of the software.

ok, but if things change on this project (as they often do around here..) and one or two users balk at the the thought of going to 2013, I would need to do a license transfer to move 2010 from old machine to the new, correct?

Yes, if you intend on installing 2010 on the new laptops then you should use the license transfer utility on the older laptops
