many xls-files in folder -> Folder won't open for some users

Many (aprox. 1000) xls-files are stored in one folder (there is no way of splitting them into different folders).
The folder is located on the local network and is accessable for every AD-user.
If an user tries to open the folder it will last about 1-2 minutes and the folder won't open. No error-message is shown.
If an admin ist opening this folder it will open within 2 seconds.

Are there any problems with the rights from the users? Does this depend on the thing that excel will lock any file that is in access of any other user? Do I have to put every user in the admin-group (well that sounds very bad)?

Any help is appreceated

It sounds as if you may have a file permissions problem.

The user has permission to access the folder but not the files. The file system reviews every one of the 1,000 files looking for those that the user may access, finding none it returns without error.

Post a test file in the folder to be tested, and grant read access on that file to members of the group currently having trouble accessing the files in that folder.  The directory listing should now return that single file to the non-administrative user.

If the test file is returned, you've proved that a file can be read from that folder by a non-administrator. Grant appropriate access to all files in the folder and the issue should be resolved.

Thank you for your advice. The panda-anti-virus-protection
was blocking the system. After deactivating the check for these folders everything was fine.
