Hi, we have a couple of linux\apache web servers that we host some websites on. We are looking for an 'expert' to assist with moving some of the websites from one box to another. Also, need to reconfigure one box so that a couple of websites use their own '.htaccess/.htpasswrd files' (rather than the global files). Sorry..i'm a windows man so this is out of my comfort zone!

Have you got the new box setup? It shouldn't be any more trouble than just backing up the folders and copy them over to the new box.
If you are asking how to set up dns, mail server, ftp etc then you will need to seperate this question into seperate threads as that is a lot of work.

Hi Gary, we can handle the DNS, FTP and mail side. Some of the websites use MySQL so think it's a little more involved than just copying over? A more urgent requirement is setting up two websites that use their 'own' .htaccess and .htpasswrd files. Currently all sites use 'global' files. The customer needs to control access to their site so figure granting ftp access to these files for them to update. I'm sure it's not that complicated to acheive but we currently lack the skills. All servers are virtual and hosted by us.

MySql, assume you have PHPMyAdmin or similar so just do a dump of the databases.
What control panel are you using, thats where you would set up ftp and directory permissions.
Is Allowoverride enabled for all sites - if so then you just need to drop an .htaccess in the folders and they will have precedence over the global settings

Hi Gary, it's a Turnkey Linux (lamp?) server. Yes...there is PHPMyAdmin. Is this something you are familiar with?
