Folder Redirection

I would like my users "My Documents" folder to redirect to the server, since the server backs up each night.  I had this working once, but got into a mess.  here's the basics:

John logs into domain POLICE, since that's where he works!
John needs access to the accounting program, on domain FINANCE.  On Finance, we do folder redirection, but not on POLICE.
Once I created John an account on Finance (since you have to map a drive to use the program), John could run the accounting program, but everytime he logged out, he would get the "Synchronizing progress" message.

So I want John to have access to both domains, but not folder redirect for him.  At best, it would be nice if he would folder redirect, but only to POLICE.

Am I making sense or do I need more coffee?

Appreciate any insight!
