How can I virtualize Win2K8 server on a Win7 PC?

I need to test a software running on Windows Server 2008.
I have a Windows 7 PC. I do not want to erase Windows 7 and replace it with Windows 2008. Can I virtualize 2008 on 7?

You can use any of the following to create a Virtual Envirnoment

Virtual PC - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/ (Free)
Vurtual Box - https://www.virtualbox.org/ (Free)
VMWare - http://www.vmware.com/products/workstation/overview.html (30day Trial)

Type 2 Hypervisor Downloads for Windows OS

VMware Player 4.0 Free Download

VMware Server 2.0.2 Free Download (discontinued)

VMware Workstation 8.0 (60 day trial, $199)

Oracle Virtualbox 4.0

Parallels Desktop 4 for Windows

You CANNOT virtualize 64 bit operating systems in Virtual PC.  Server 2008 R2 is 64 bit only.  If you meant that, then Virtual PC is NOT an option.  I THINK Virtual Box and VMWare both support 64 bit guests.

Easier - upgrade to Windows 8 (it is final, though you only have access if you have a volume license, technet, or msdn) and install client Hyper-V on the Win8 Pro/Enterprise version.  (One more thing about client hyper-v - it requires Second Level Address Translation (SLAT) only available in the newest processors (including I THINK all i-series processors by intel and newer AMD processors including (AT LEAST) the FX series - I'm typing this in a VM on Win8 on an FX8120 CPU).

By the way, Hyper-V is a MUCH faster Type 1 virtualization platform unlike all the options available for Win7 (they're all slower type 2)
