I have a hyper v windows 2008 R2 sp1 machine and 2- windows 2008 standard r2 sp1 virtual machines.  At his time, hyper-v manager is installed on Windows 7 sp1, 32 bit.

I have reviewed countless documents on getting the dynamic memory options in hyper V manager.

I have tried to install/reinstall integration services and the machine tells me that the OS does not require integration services.

I have attempted to update both server and host, no additional updates.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

If you open the Hyper-V Manager on the host (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) can you see/configure the dynamic memory?

Dumb question...but all I have is the command prompt and hyperv command screen.  How do you launch it from there?

Forget it… you can’t… I thought you had the full GUI version of Windows Server…

Did you install the RSAT for Windows 7 SP1 on the management workstation? http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=7887 If you already had RSAT on Windows 7 before upgrading to SP1, you need to reinstall it. Then you should have access to Dynamic Memory config and you will have two more columns in the main window of the Hyper-V Manager: Memory Demand and Memory Status.

You are using Hyper-V, you will need to use the Hyper-V Manager from another computer.

How do you currently manage and create your VMs?

Spaperov - re-downloaded and that is the version I have.  I unchecked and re-checked.  See attached.    How many reboots would be needed for the reinstall?   I did not reboot the windows 7 machine as it did not prompt me to.

This is not the latest version of Hyper-V Manager. The version I have is 6.1.7601.17514

May be you should uninstall RSAT for Windows 7 and download it again from the link in my previous post.

**Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 with SP1 can be installed ONLY on computers that are running the Enterprise, Professional, or Ultimate editions of Windows 7 or Windows 7 with SP1.**

Which edition of Windows 7 do you have?

Windows 7 SP1 had not been installed.  So you need Hyperv R2sp1, windows 2008 r2 sp1, and the manager pc has to have 7sp1.

Spaprer -

can you do a version chceck  on your host server?   I have the options in hyperv manager, but they are greyed out.  Which tells me my host is not really sp1.

You don't have SP1 on the server, that's way they are greyed out.

And, you have the free Microsoft Hyper-V Server and not a Windows Server 2008 R2. The good news is that your Hyper-V servers seems to be R2, you just need to find a way to update it with SP1.

Here is more info: http://blogs.technet.com/b/virtualization/archive/2011/04/12/microsoft-hyper-v-server-2008-r2-sp1-released.aspx

And a download link for the full package: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20196

Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 looks like that:

OS Name:                   Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
OS Version:                6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

That did it.  It is now working as it should.  I appreciate your assistance.   Where can you get the free hyperv 2008 r2 sp1 iso?    or do you have to patch?
