centos 5.4

attached a 3TB external hard drive to my workstation but only sees 2TB, is there away around this?

The external drive, did you buy it as an external drive or did you take an enclosure and attach your own drive to it?

Use Parted (http://man.flashnux.com/en/centos/5/5.4/man8/parted.8.html) to create the partition as FDISK doesn't support over 2TB.

Take a look at this url.  It's most likely you'll need to use Parted to reformat the drive since FDisk doesn't go over 2TB.
