hi.  i have just upgraded my esxi 4 host to esxi 5, and now i need to re-apply a license.  i also have other esxi 5 hosts that already have their license applied and valid.

my subscriptions on the company account has only 1 esxi5 license, so can i just apply that one to that host that was just recently upgraded?

    Accepted Solution

You need to obtain the licenses from the VMware MyVMware Portal, and apply.

v4.x licenses are not compatible with v5.x.

You need to have purchased the correct number of licenses per CPU.

if you are using vCenter Server, just Assign the remaining licenses to Assets eg hosts.

if you only have Purchased ONE licenses, you are in breach of the licensing if you apply it.

You need to purchase a new licensed

eg you need to have 2 in the VMware MyVMware Portal.

if you have valid support and subscription, you should see the 4.x license Upgrade 5.x available in MyVMware.
