Word 2010 - Why use content controls? Why not just type text?

In the footer graphic, there is a content control.  Why use a content control when you can just type text into the footer.
1 Solution
If you are creating a single document from scratch, Content controls don't help much, but if you want to design a template for later use, controls can help to define where particular text should be entered. If the document is forms-protected, you can even prevent accidental typing over or deleting the fixed text.

Also, if you want to run some VBA code, there are half-a dozen event procedures are triggered from various control editing actions
