I have a client running Windows 7 Pro with McAfee Total Protection installed. Typical standalone with Office Pro and Quickbooks 2011. The system has become contaminated with a program called &quot;Live Security Platinum&quot; which appears to be a fake alert type of program. It also appears that McAfee had expired for a couple of days, a few days ago - which is probably what happened. Any ideas on how to remove this fake alert software? The add/remove doesn't do anything and the software just runs every few minutes, listing a million infections it says are present. Thanks!

Anti-virus software was originally developed to detect and remove computer viruses. However, with the proliferation of other kinds of malware, antivirus software started to provide protection from other computer threats. In particular, modern antivirus software can protect from malicious browser helper objects (BHOs), browser hijackers, ransomware, keyloggers, backdoors, rootkits, trojan horses, worms, malicious layered service providers (LSPs), dialers, fraud tools, adware and spyware.
