The AD DS service on server does not want to start

Hello Thank you for your time and attention to my question. Your expertise is highly valued and appreciated.

I have just installed a new server 2008 r2 sp1 in an existing domian. The old DC is Server 2003 r2 sp2.

I raised the domain functional level to 2003 from 2000 mixed.
I preped the existing domain by running (adprep /domainprep /forestprep  /gpprep) on old server.

I added new server to domain and ran DCPromo.exe
Wizard had an issue w/ connecting to existign global catalog but that was due to a credentials issue.
DCPromo finished and rebooted.

I have not moved the FSMO roles as as i'm havign issue w/ Active Directory on the new server.

AD DS is not runnign and will not start.

AD DSAD DSAD DSAD DS
How can i fixed this issue. Should i run DCPromo agian?
As right now the sever has Acitve Directory and DNS role runnign on it.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Check to make sure that replication between domain controllers is happening.  Run this command from one of the DCs, in Command Prompt of course:

dcdiag /test:replication

If it fails or doesn't show any replication between the 2003 and 2008 servers then you could try to demote the 2008 server and repromote it.  Since it doesn't hold any FSMOs it should be a simple process.

Hello xBouchardx

Thank you for your input.

I tried to run dcdiag /test:replication and got error

C:\>dcdiag /test:replication
Test not found. Please re-enter a valid test name.

This is what i get when i run just dcdiag from new server:

DCDIAG NEW SERVER
DCDiag on old server

It does not seem that replication between servers is occuring.

In order to demote server all i need to do is remove Active Directly Services Role from the server?

Thank you....
