If you are able to boot into safe mode can you check the event logs, the System log for errors please. When you hit F8 to get into Safe Mode option have you tried the Repair your Computer option--first selection? Have you recently installed anything new, if you have remove that while in safe mode. How about any new hardware? Do you have a hardware testing CD? Hopefully you have a Win7 DVD--insert it and reboot and then have it check for and repair bootup errors. Hopefully you will not have to reinstall Windows but it may come to that.

Tried the repair option under the F8 Startup, no new hardware, it WAS after 'Patch Tuesday' so I did a 'System Restore' to a state prior to the patch. Did not boot to the Win7 CD. &nbsp;I'll try that next.<br />

Formerly normally functioning Win7 Pro Dell PC will no longer login to a Linix server, or a local account. &nbsp;System boots normally to login screen...credentials applied...Welcome message appears and remains. &nbsp;Booting into Safe mode, credentials worked properly and linix login worked.
