i recently migrated a site from moss 2007 to sp 2010.
while the site has been migrated properly the customized master page does not render and i get file not found error. i then go to site settings and change the master page to v4.master after which the site opens up but is entirely distorted.i added few of the third party webparts from 2007 which are displayed correctly.

when you migrate the site, you need to make sure that the old sites master page ie. "default.aspx" will change to "home.aspx" in 2010 environment. Also you need to do visual upgrade on the site to use 2010 look n theme. If you change to v4.master, all your old customization will disapear or distorted.
