How to update HP SA6402 Controller to latest firmware

Hi

I would like to update the firmware on a HP SA6402 controller. Is there a way I can use the HP Firmware CD to do this automatically? Ive never flashed a storage card before so any help would be greatly appreciated.

This isnt a mission critical server so i can take it offline etc.

Thanks

Hi,

Just looking at HP's website there is no online flash update available for this device:

These offline updates generally require burning to a CD/DVD and booting to it.

Although if you're running it in a server and it can be brought down, it may be worthwhile downloading the latest HP ProLiant support pack and running that - it'll update everything from the server BIOS to any compatible, out-of-date cards. Same thing - you can run parts of that from Windows or boot to it.

I'm assuming you're running Windows of course, but even if not, you can boot to the disks

Hi mate, Im running this in a vmware environment, the server is the ESXi host.

Can you give me a link to where I can download this from? im running a DL385 G1 connected to an MSA20 via a 6402 Card.

I dont mind buring an ISO to a cd to get this to work.

Thanks
Hiya

This is the link to the last Support Pack for the 385's but having a quick look through the list, you may want / need an earlier version as there's a comment saying removed G2 hardware in revision 8.6.

Certainly there's no harm in starting high and moving down other than lost time.

It's usually the one large file you need is all (middle of the three on that site)
Thanks

It appears the download is an exe you run in a Windows environment, problem is my server is ESXi host, i dont think i can run the exe in a virtual machine, is there not an offline version of this? something you can run during boot?

I found this, is this the same thing? http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=1844067&swItem=MTX-6af2823e93a840e0bc9ce12d3f&prodNameId=1844068&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=5
