Server 2003 - Server Down Need to Migrate Domain User profiles to Workgroup

Hi Experts,

I have a Domain Server running Server 2003 that has croaked. I need to temporarily migrate all XP desktops on the domain to a Workgroup.

All desktops are still logged in the user profile associated with the dead server. What suggestions would you make to ease the suffering of creating a new user profile on the XP desktops with settings and files from old user profile?

Can I use Migwiz and expect good results? Can I uncheck domain properties in Migwiz to get the results I need without individually needed data?

Thanks in advance

How Many PC / Users on this Domain ..?

Yes , you have to create the Windows XP Local users to login.

For Migrate the Profiles please check this URL

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/fac17d6a-3c1b-4188-913e-ac2ec45b3ad6/

And then you will Configure the Workgroup network and leave the Domain..right?
If users are less then you only give the required documents & for email they can use the Web-mail. Coz When your server 2003 with domain is ready then you have to Rejoin the Domain and Copy the Data Again..means its double work.

And you can Reinstall the Server with Domain & Network & AD users & DNS..etc with in One Day..Right?

And one more thing forgot , When you Reconfigure your server, please Install the Additional Domain Controller on your network , So further when one server crashed then other would be promoted as a Primary.

Thank you for your response.

However, I am leaving a domain and joining to workgroup. The url that you provided is the opposite.

I have set up a workgroup and removed the external usb drive from the server. I then installed the usb drive onto a stand alone computer not being used by a user. I had to redo the share configuration.

The problem lies with the getting domain user accounts migrated to a workgroup user account on the same workstation . To do this, I must save .pst files and all of the contents in My Documents since the server did not have Exchange and the My Documents were not redirected.

The users were instructed to save all important data to the usb drive so no important data is saved to the workstations.

This is a small network with 9 users. The primary hard drive is toast. I am not getting an output to the monitor either. This server is 10 years old and we are replacing it with an SBS server.

It looks like I will have to do double the work in order to get this done unless you can provide me with the solution I am looking for or someone else for this matter.

Thanks Vijay,

I will use this when I migrate the workgroup to the domain when the server is installed later this month.
