Import hyperlink from sql server into Excel

I have a data connection set up to import some sql server data into excel and it works without issue. However, I want to use one of the sql server fields as part of a hyperlink. I know I can create my own column, outside of the imported data and make a hyperlink, but, I'd like to just import the function (or whatever) using the data connection.
I have something like this in one of the fields in the data connection's definition:
'=Hyperlink("https://myURL/' + mySqlField + '","' + friendlyNameField + '")'
which turns into this in the cell
=Hyperlink("https://myURL/mySqlField","friendlyNameField")
The problem is that it shows up as just text in the cell (not a hyperlink). If I select that cell and hit return, it turns into a hyperlink (so I think I'm close).

any ideas?
thanks,
alan

Please try it like this:
    ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = _
        "=HYPERLINK(""https://myURL/mySqlField"",""friendlyNameField"")"
