Temporary Phone Directory Without the Use of A database

I'm trying to create a temporary searchable phone directory that does not require a database.  Instead I was thinking information could be saved in array in a text file.  Possibly utilizing php.  Of course I am open to suggestions of other web based languages.  The main objective is to have script that would allow me to put in basic information about a user, save it (again possibly in array) and then display it on a webpage.  With an option to search via a form.  This is my first attempt to do this with out at least a MySQL database. In suggestions or leads would be very helpful.

TMTOWTDI :)  For a simple application, you could likely use structured text.  But if you're thinking about portability / supportability, you may want to give a casual glance to XML.  It's not difficult to read / write the underlying data, and searching (seems like it'd be useful if you didn't have to roll your own) could be easily implemented.  Enjoy!
