Unable to add additional mailbox - not able to validate as gaps in GAL

Server 2003 R2, Exchange 2003, Outlook 2007, XP Pro client.

Scenario:
We have personal and shared mailboxes that various members of our organisation use on a day-to-day basis, with access to these shared mailboxes granted through various AD groups.

A small handful of users are expeiencing a strange issue, which begins with items missing from the Global Address List (see screenshot).
This isn't a major issue as they can simply type the email address manually.
However, this becomes more of a problem when trying to add a shared mailbox to one of these users accounts; if that mailbox is one of the ones missing in their address list, Outlook cannot resolve the name of the mailbox with exchange.

We've gone through the usual steps of cached/uncached, manually doing a send/recieve on the address book (both full and changes), even re-populating the GAL on exhange server.

Going into cached mode does give them the full address list, with no missing entries, but when adding the extra mailbox, the mailbox still will not resolve as the items remain missing.

Does anyone know a cause and a fix???
Any help very greatly appreciated.

As per what i understand is the issue is with OAB not showing all addresses in GAL while Outlook in cache mode.

1. Is this something like you create a Mailbox today and try to add to users Outlook ? If so you will either Rebuild the OAB or wait till next day or do the workaround you do.
2. If you dont see the new entry in Outlook cache even after few days then could be that OAB isnt working properly.

The mailboxes in question have existed for at least 12 months, some 5 or 6 years, so certainly not a new user or mailbox type issue.

When in cached mode they appear, do not when in un-cached mode.

And to confuse further, some appear on one machine and then not on another
It appears in cache and not in Online ..... this is the most Wired issue i guess i have ever heard :)
If its large number of users\machines either ways i would check with OWA and if everything is fine in OWA .... Online Outlook isnt issue could be more specific to Outlook profile.

OWA all addresses appear

also tried the 'open other users folder' and you can access the shared mailbox, but obviously it doesn't open the full mailbox properly
For Full Mailbox Property have you give "Full Mailbox Access" and which folders you cant see as if you want to see all folders in Outlook you have to click on Folder list option at the Left Bottom in Outlook.

Sorry, I was referring to when you do 'open other users folder' it simply does that, opens a single folder, not place the opened folder and the rest of the mailbox in the 'mail folders' pane on the left, which is what we need

the users have 'full mailbox access'
If users have Full access to shared mailbox you should add them to Additional Mailbox and not Open other users folder as this option is selected to open only specific folder.

Similar would be for Outlook 2003.

If items are missing in a users profile when not in C.E.M. i would tend to say the users profile may be corrupt or is being affected by an Add IN

You can try closing outlook and re-opeinging using
Start>Run>Outlook.exe /cleanprofile

See if this helps

You can also try using
Start>Run>Outlook.exe /safe

If its okay in safe mode we know its going to be an add in issue

If both the above dont help
Id probably look at recreating the users profile
