Hello,

Does Microsoft Exchange keep track of distribution list usage? The amount of emails coming through a list?

We are running Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP1 and our users are Outlook 2010.

Thanks.

You can track for message with Recipient as Email address of Distribution Group.

Get-MessageTrackingLog

I tried that using..

[PS] C:\>Get-MessageTrackingLog -start "07/12/2012 12:00:00" -End "09/12/2012 12:00:00" -Recipients "chsale@oooo.com" -ResultSize 99999 | measure-object

Count    : 53

Both values returned "53" but we think there is more going through, is there anything that needs to be adjusted for Message Tracking to work?

I should add that "chsale@oooo.com" is a distribution group, so what we are really trying to see is how often this list is used.

Is there a way to see those counts and their dates?

Seems odd that there are only 53 within a month, and 53 still in a expanded time frame.

What if you do this ?

Get-MessageTrackingLog -start "01/12/2012 12:00:00" -End "07/12/2012 12:00:00" -Recipients "chsale@oooo.com" -ResultSize 99999 | measure-object

I would say create a Dummy mailbox for the DL and just have it to see how many and what emails are sent to this DL or have some forwarding.

So only emails were sent to the DL between 7 - 9 :)

There is only 1 hub, I will test with other email to see results.

The issue was that the DL was not used a lot, my initial command worked but the returned value was low because the list was indeed used very little.

I think ID: http:#a38399018 and ID: http:#a38399554 is the information that helped track the information that was requested as per post.
