Can someone help me with the command lines I need to configure FE 0/0 for DHCP from a cable modem?

Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to have the router act as a DHCP server or obtain an IP address via DHCP.

If you want the router to act as a DHCP server here is an example:

ip dhcp pool test
 network 10.198.144.0 255.255.248.0
 domain-name mydomain.com
 dns-server 10.8.21.34
 default-router 10.198.144.1

interface GigabitEthernet0/0
 description GE interface for test
 ip address 10.70.144.1 255.255.254.0

If you want to obtain an IP address via DHCP:

interface GigabitEthernet0/0
 description GE interface for test
 ip address dhcp

Hi danieldias,

Thanks for your quick help.  I just want FE 0/0 to obtaion an IP address from DHCP.

interface GigabitEthernet0/0
 description GE interface for test
 ip address dhcp

Can you clarify the second line "description GE interface for test"?  Is the whole like a remark like for description?

Thank you,

Wayne

It is just a description so someone has a representation of what the interface is connected to/used for/etc.....you can omit if necessary, it is not required for operation.
