uninstall flash player gpo

Hello experts,

I created a GPO that installs flash player activex version 11.4 on client machines, it works if flash player has never been installed on the system before.

If I manually remove the current version of flash player activex (10.x) on client machines, the GPO will apply to some machnes but not to others.
If I just run the GPO on a machine that has an earlier version of flash (10.x), the GPO wont apply and install version 11.4.

How can I remove the 10.x version via gpo while also having the 11.4 version install?
The GPO that was created for the 10.x version no longer exists.

Also, does anyone know what version 32 or 64 bit is the 11.4 release of flash player activex, it doesnt show?
Thanks.

11.4 is both x86 and x64; it has been combined into a unified installation.
Try pushing it as a STARTUP script which will run as the local system account and should uninstall any older version.

Suggest you take a look at this article especially the comments from reader whom also spell out your current issue. May not be 11.4 though but practices may jot differ much. Mostly mentioned to clean up registry if uninstall has issue...

If you load http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/on both 32 and 64 bits browsers. You should see the version number on the page when its loaded. If they both display a version number then it has successfully installed on both versions.

Thanks. How do I push it as a startup script and get it to uninstall the current versions? Do you have the script?

That author mentioned it can be auto upgrade..

In my testing which was considerably limited due to the number of 64-bit machines available to me I came to the following conclusions: * Installing Flash 11 over Flash 10 on a 64-Bit version will automatically upgrade the 32-bit install. * you dont have to include the 32-Bit upgrades in the GPO because it will automatically upgrade it when it installs the 64-Bit version. That means that when you package your Flash11 (for 32-Bit OS) you need to upgrade your old flash installs (you can still use the same GPO). When you package Flash11 (for 64-Bit OS) you don’t need to upgrade older packages, but you can still use the original GPO to deploy it.

There's also an install package from adobe

do it the same as a login script; but, it goes in a different place: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779329(v=ws.10).aspx
And remember that the new version (11.4) is a unified x86 and x64 install that uninstalls older versions.

Hi, try downloading the uninstaller from here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

and then in a batch file, run
@echo off
\\server\share\uninstall_flash_player.exe /s /clean
\\server\share\install_flash_player_11_ac tive_x.exe /s

Regards,

Rob.

Is there a way that I can add this uninstall script to the existing gpo that installs the new version of flash?
The install of the flash works fine with the gpo, it's just that I need to uninstall any previous versions. If I use a login script that uninstalls then installs flash then it will always perform that action even on machines that have previously run the script.

was wondering if this helps

http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/72296-uninstall-adobe-reader-using-group-policy

... When your configuring your new Deployment Package through GP Management Editor, you can choose to "remove the previous version" of the the program upon installation.
