Can if I want to import a PST file from an existing mail server into a new mail server in the same domain will I need to delete this folder from the old server first? or will exchange allow me to just create a new mail box on the new server with the same name?

I have been trying to move the user mail boxes from 2003 to a new 2010 exchange server. I was able to create PST files but when I move them I am told that I don't have proper security rights. So I was thinking of importing PST file for these 5 mail boxes. I don't know why I don't have proper security rights.

Are you running Exchange 2010 RTM, SP1 or SP2?

If it's Exchange 2010 RTM you need Outlook 2010 x64 installed on the machine.

For Sp1 or Sp2 you need to be assigned permissions to import mailboxes to an account in your organization.  To do that run the following command.

New-ManagementRoleAssignment –Role "Mailbox Import Export" –User "YourUser"

But if I import them with their mail boxes still on the old server because it is up will it create a problem?

The reason for security right could be that the Allow Inheritable isnt checked on those users .....

As your saying about Mailbox Import so its simple you need to remove the Old Mailbox check with any customization and then simply Disconnect the Mailbox and AD account with Legacy .... create a new Mailbox from EMC with existing user and then Import.

One thing if your Importing from Outlook you would have to use Outlook for Import or else do Export in Legacy from Exmerge and then Import in E2k10 with Shell.
