If Statement - Excel 2007

I am trying to write an IF statement adding payroll from a check register worksheet to calculated yearly sum in another worksheet.

=IF(CheckRegister[[#Headers],[DESCRIPTION][ISTEXT(Payroll)]],SUM(CheckRegister[[#Headers],[WITHDRAWAL]],D4),D4)

D4 being the cell on the second worksheet - running total.

Any help would be appreciated!

you probably need the SUMIF function.  Have a look here:
