i have 3 citrix xenapp 6.5 servers running. citrix1 is zdc, webint, etc. 2 and 3 are session hosts. ive just taken an export of citrix3 in hyperv to make citrix 4 and 5, what is the process for making this image able to join the citrix farm? i know to sysprep but its the xenapp prep part im unclear as dont want this server to interfere with citrix3 when i re add to domain

so as an update i have the option in xenapp server config for provisioning. now do i select "remove this current server instance fron the farm"? as this is technically an export of a working vm and shold be unique but i dont want this to try removing the citrix server i cloned from the farm etc.

do you know the manual places i would need to remove citrix configs so i can use the exported vm? as all the methods described seem to sound like a need to rejoin the existing good server (which is live to the domain)

    Accepted Solution

I would suggest that you make this Citrix 3 as a template then from that template you can create XenApp servers 3, 4 and 5. Here are the steps (please note that I don't have right now an available farm to test these steps, so please first carry them in a test environment):

    1. Stop the Citrix MFCOM and IMA Services and set their Startup type to Manual.
    2. Stop the Citrix WMI Service
    3. In the registry:
        set HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\IMA\RUNTIME\PSRequired to 1.
        delete the value for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\IMA\ServerHost.
    4. Run dsmaint recreatelhc to delete the contents of the Local Host Cache.
    5. Run dsmaint recreaterade to delete the contents of the Application Streaming Offline database cache.
    6. Remove the workstation Identification (WSID) from MF20.dsn and RadeOffline.dsn files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Independent Management Architecture by deleting the line that specifies the WSID.
    7. Run XenAppPrep
    8. Run SysPrep
    9. Shut down the server and turn it into a template

Now for each New VM you will create it from this template with the following steps:
    1. Turn on the newly created VM
    2. Change it's name, join it to the domain, set HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\IMA\Logging\HostName to the new computer name and restart the server.
    3. Edit the CtxSta.config file to create a unique STA ID in C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\System32. You will use the VMs MAC address with no hyphens preceded by STA. this will be entered in the UID field in the file. E.G:
    4. Start the following services:
Set the startup type of Citrix Independent Management Architecture service to automatic and start the service. Do the same for the Citrix MFCOM service. Start also the Citrix WMI service.
