RDP is not working after windows update server 2008 R2
Hi guys,
I have a 2 servers. Let's call them Server01 & Server02. Both running Windows Server 2008 Standard R2. I installed Service Pack 1 on both servers via windows updates. After reboot, i can rdp to server01 but when i rdp to server02 it will disconnect me before i could see the desktop. Below is a knowledge base i extract from microsoft technet .
"Please download and install the following hotfixes, restart your server, and see if the problem is resolved:
Security Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB2667402)
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29169
Security Update for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB2621440)
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29116
You may already have one or both of the above installed and the installer will notify you when you double-click it. Please let us know which ones of the above were already installed, and also if you have Service Pack 1 installed. For example, you may have Service Pack 1 and KB2621440 installed, but not KB2667402--I have seen where this combination causes the RDS service to fail."
When i checked server01 i found that i already have both KB2621440 & KB2667402. In fact i also have these 2 KBs in server01 but rdp to server01 is fine. Could someone shed some light on this. Should i uninstall both the KBs then reinstall both again or should i uninstall both but install one of the KB first. If the latter which one shld i install first?
Btw, uninstalling the above KBs should not cause any major problem to the OS right?
If anyone have come across this issue i appreciate your kind inputs.
Another thing i would like to highlight is that at if i reboot server02 i could rdp to server02 for a while but i'm sure the next day i couldn't rdp anymore. i get kick out after keyin id & pw. Strange.
Thanks in advance :)

Can you RDP in from a different computer using the same credentials? I've seen some wierd issues where you can RDP fine into everything else but one server, but other computers can RDP fine into that server. If RDP works fine from a different computer, but not on your PC then the issue is with your PC somehow, which is wierd I know, but I've come accross this issue before.

Hi Razmus,
Thank you for your very simple yet to the point explanation. I will try it this coming saturday and let you know the outcome. Btw since KB2621440 is already installed, can i just leave it alone or it is advisable to uninstall?
Many Thanks & Regards

I'd leave KB2621440 in place. The relevant files have been overwritten by the subsequent patch and SP1.
