markup a word document

I have a word document and I would like to assign a tag or some other way of defining a block of text to a specific name so that I can use it in a macro to fill out another document.

You should use a Bookmark. Select the text and click on Bookmark on the Insert tab.

The contained text is returned by:

ActiveDocument.BookMarks("MyBookmark").Range.Text
