SharePoint 2010 farm backups retention policy

I have a ps1 script that runs before my offsite backups to creates a full backup on Friday and a differential on the other days.  I have two batchfiles and two ps1 scripts.  One with the 'full' syntax and another with the 'differential' syntax.  Since they save to the same folder the script seems to be smart enought to scan for a full and to allow a differential to be made.  Below is the syntax I'm using.  How can I specify how many copies to keep of each backup set?

full ps1 script
Add-PsSpanin Microsoft.SharePoint.Powershell
Backup-SPFarm -Directory $DIRECTORY -Force -BackupMethod full

differential ps1 script
Add-PsSpanin Microsoft.SharePoint.Powershell
Backup-SPFarm -Directory $DIRECTORY -Force -BackupMethod differential

I found this link below.. I got it working on two different SharePoint 2010 farms that are running Windows 2008 R2, however, it says it's also compatible with SharePoint 2007 and 3, however, it seems that it's commands do not support PowerShell v1.0 and my SharePoint 2007 server is on a Windows 2003 64bit server.  Can't I simply download / install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968929 and then be able to run v2 scripts?
