Max amount of email addresses in lotus notes junk mail rule?

I have a user that is getting the error message in Lotus Notes version 8.5.3

" Limit for Junk Mail Addresses reached. Please delete addresses before adding more"

I took a look in his mail rules of his junk mail and saw that he had around 5-600 email addresses being blocked. He wants to continue blocking all the spam he gets on a daily basis, but does not want to remove any of the other blocked email addresses. Does anyone know if this is possible in some way, or can the size restriction of amount of blocked addresses be increased somehow?

This article may contain some interesting information, but I suppose you already found it: http://lekkimworld.com/2006/11/13/limits_in_notes_7_junk_mail_handling.html

Is there any reason you don't use a proper anti-spam application on the server itself?

Hi  WOWGuy26,,,

-You mentioned the following
>>>I took a look in his mail rules of his junk mail and saw that he had around 5-600 email addresses being blocked. He wants to continue blocking all the spam he gets on a daily basis, but does not want to remove any of the other blocked email addresses<<<
if as you mentioned he uses Mail Rules to block these email address , I dont thing this is the best practice and I highly recommend you to read the followign " Do's and Donts " of mail rules
http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/dominowiki.nsf/dx/Mail_Rules_Tips_tricks__best_practices

The lotus Domino Administrator better perform the following for these spam addresses

''''Black List their domains
- Configuration Document
- Router/SMTP
- Restrictions and Controls
- SMTP Inbound Controls
- Black list Filters
- DNS Blacklist Filters
- DNS Blacklist sites :

Or Deny messages from internet addresses /domains
Then Scroll down until you reach .." Inbound Sender Controls"  and in the - " Deny messages from the following internet addresses/domains"  put all these SPAMs address / domains

Best Wishes

Thank you both for responding.

I have run across both of those articled while searching for a solution/alternative way to block spam.

Unfortunately the notes administrator here does not have the time to go through all of the e-mail addresses of the user that he is getting spam from. I work at a relatively large company, and there is only 1 notes admin for several thousand users.

So Really I am just trying to see if there is any other way around this message using the built in mail rules, but with somehow getting around that error message or increasing the amount that the rule can hold.

I came across this link
http://lekkimworld.com/2006/11/13/limits_in_notes_7_junk_mail_handling.html

The person there says that there is code that limits the size of the mail rules in the junk folder to hit the ever so dreaded 32k limit. I wonder if there is a way to find out where that code is so I can change the # to something higher?

What I really meant is that the user can forward all SPAMs to the Admin can block them using the above mentioned ways .....

Or

You can just spend some money and purchase a third party Anti-SPAM solution which will certainly do the job for you ...

Ah, now where did I see that link before... ;-)) Forget Mikkel's remarks, they are for the Notes developers, there's nothing that you or I can do about that limit. Better ask your company for some funding so the Admin can get a decent anti-spam utility for the server. Suppose every user wasted 1 hour on this anti-spam issue, that would mean several thousands of hours are wasted, at say $30 per hour, with a total of $100,000 wasted on anti-spam!

Don't waste time and money, buy a tool.

Yeah. The place I work for is cheap and thinks the one they have in place works. Apparently though it does not I get so many complaints per week that I mention to the notes admin about but he is bogged down enough.

Closing this request. I told the user he needs to go through his rules and narrow down which ones he sees still and block only those.

Why delete the question? Didn't you receive valuable information? We said that there's no solution, and that's a correct and valid answer, so you might be disappointed but that's no reason to close the question this way.
