Crystal Reports Export does not work in IE8

We are using Crystal Reports 2009 for displaying our reports in an ASP.NET application.
The reports are displayed using the CrystalReportViewer control.
A lot of our users are complaining that they cannot export and print reports using IE8. Everything works fine with IE9, Firefox and Chrome. Its only IE8 that is giving us a problem.
When they click export/print, the pop up window comes up. Then when they click "OK" nothing happens. Sometimes it will display a message saying Internet Explorer cannot find the website.
I googled this problem online and found that Crystal Reports and IE8 have an issue downloading a file over an SSL connection and the solution to this, is to modify the registry on the client machine.
Is this correct? Could you please suggest an other solution other that changing registry settings at the clients end.
