We recently migrated a users database from Microsoft Access to Sql Server express 2008 R2. They have a mixed environment of XP and Windows 7 professional machines. The server is Windows Standard 2003 with the latest service pack. The problem is that some of the machines intermittently either have an error when launching the program that uses sqlesxpress from the server or drops the connection throughout the day. The error is unable to connect/or locate the servername/database name. I can connect to shares and the server for other things. We have tried pinging from these pc's for a 24 hour period in which there were no drops. We also replaced the NIC on one of them and were still experiencing the same issues. Some machines dont have any problems at all both xp and 7. We are at a loss for what to try next and we think it may be a sql issue?

Any thought?

I also noticed the following errors in the event viewer on the server. I am not sure if this is relevant or important to correct?

The computer GMJIM tried to connect to the server \\servername using the trust relationship established by the STERLING0 domain. However, the computer lost the correct security identifier (SID) when the domain was reconfigured. Reestablish the trust relationship.

Are you sure Remote Mssql Server connection setting configuration is correct..?

Port 1433 , Server IP Address , Mssql Surface connection settings , SQL Browser service ,
Be sure IP All port number setting is 1433 , not a dynamic , Port open in Firewall.

And For Event ID 5722
please check  : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810977

AD integrated with DNS Server is configured on Windows2008 ..?

Please check also Windows XP or Windows 7 Client Desktops are properly configured in a domain . Network Settings IP /Subnet /Gateway & DNS . Primary DNS Should be Local IP Address of Windows2008 Server.

We have resoled the issue. The problem was that in sql config manager there are a few protocols. I was told that named pipes and TCP/IP needed to be enabled. They were enabled at first glance, however when I right click on TCP/IP and chose properties there was a tab called IP Addresses. In there it listed the specific ip addresses on the server (both NICS and the loop back address. These were all disabled in this menu. I enabled this feature on all IP addresses that were listed and all seems fine now. I would like to close this as solved on my own. How do I close this?
