Send outgoing mail through Ironport - message queued for delivery

We have an Ironport C150 appliance.  We are currently only using it to filter incoming mail but we would like to set it up for outgoing mail as well.  We are using Exchange 2010 and I have setup a send connector to route mail through a smart host (IronPort).  In Ironport I have added the mail server IP to the HAT Relay list.  The mail is sent to the IronPort successfully and it completes an AV scan etc. but the mail sits in the queue with a status of "queued for delivery".  What have I missed?  Why isn't the mail being sent out?

Thanks in advance for you help!

In the Delivery Status screen, what is the Latest Host Status listed as...unknown or down?
if it is down, confirm that the ironport is allowed outbound on port 25, not just inbound, on the firewall.

you can test easiest through a SSH session to the ironport:

Choose the operation you want to perform:
    - RAID - Disk Verify Utility.
    - DISK_USAGE - Check Disk Usage.
    - NETWORK - Network Utilities.
    - REPORTING - Reporting Utilities.
    - TRACKING - Tracking Utilities.
    - RELOAD - Reset configuration to the initial manufacturer values.
    []> network

Choose the operation you want to perform:
    - FLUSH - Flush all network related caches.
    - ARPSHOW - Show system ARP cache.
    - NDPSHOW - Show system NDP cache.
    - SMTPPING - Test a remote SMTP server.
    - TCPDUMP - Dump ethernet packets.
    []> smtpping

Enter the hostname or IP address of the SMTP server:

Select a network interface to use for the test.
    1. yourinterfacename
    2. auto
    []> 1

Do you want to type in a test message to send?  If not, the connection will
be tested but no email will be sent. [N]> N

    Starting SMTP test of host
    Resolved '' to
    Connection to succeeded.
    Command EHLO succeeded
    Command MAIL FROM succeeded.
Test complete.  Total time elapsed 0.83 seconds

You should see the test completed successfully. if not, check the firewall...

Also, under SMTP routes, what is listed for "All Other Domains"?
