XML Value as date in Excel

Copy and paste the following XML in notepad and save as an XML, when I open it with Excel "as an XML table" Column B is accepted as a date but not column A.
Any idea what is wrong?

  <Test>
    <Status_Date>2012-09-06 01:00 PM</Status_Date>
    <Purchase_Date>2012-09-06</Purchase_Date>
  </Test>
  <Test>
    <Status_Date>2012-09-06 01:00 PM</Status_Date>
    <Purchase_Date>2012-09-06</Purchase_Date>
  </Test>

Try the above. You need to put 'T' and then format the time as such.

It works without the time on  your status date. Do you require the time?
