Hi!

I have a situation that when a computers move between VLANS its IP Address does not change, this results on the Computer not having access to any resources on the Network and trying to refresh the IP doesn’t help as it still gets the IP Add from the initial VLAN. I have IP Helper running on the Switch. DHCP is running on Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise x64 Edition Service Pack 2. Please help.

Try this:
Run on client ipconfig /release
Move to other vlan.
Run on client ipconfig /renew

I have tried the suggested and when i run ipconfig /renew after moving to the other vlan i still get the old ip. Please note that i have over 6 Vlans and looking for a solution that will let the computers work thru all the Vlans without any intervention.

You said 'ip helper' so I am assuming you're using Cisco (?)

Do the switches have an IP address in those VLANs?

interface vlan10
ip address etc...

If I remember correctly that should help.

I'll also add some topics to draw some more attention.

OK, how do you have configured this IPHelper ? This should be set up on each switch for every VLAN then should work fine. In other case you might face mentioned issue

Krzysztof

Does IP Helper need to be on every switch as well?

Not just the core router?

The switches are completely separate per Vlan.

Still assuming you use Cisco's.

Normally it would suffice to have one ip-helper per VLAN (or two, if you have to DHCP servers) and put it in the VLAN interface, not the physical.

Not sure if the poster accepted the correct answer (if any). We'll need some feedback on that.
