I have a TV mounted high up on the wall near where my company's employee time clock is located, and this TV has a PC connected to it. We have been using a piece of software called "Play The Web" (http://www.play-the-web.com/home.html
) to run a screensaver of sorts, where it displays a few specific websites for news headlines, local weather, and a PowerPoint slideshow with pertinent company information. This is set to repeat infinitely, with a refresh of the web pages each time they display. There is no user interaction with this PC or screen, it displays information in a never-ending loop only.
The problem is this - Play The Web is very buggy and prone to locking up, crashing, etc. Thinking this was possibly an issue with the PC it was running on, I did a clean install of the OS, to no change. The developer has also seemed to have abandoned it, there has not been an updated version in a few years. (it will not recognize the newer PowerPoint format, we must continue to save any changes to the slideshow in the older 2003 format) Also, it will only work with Internet Explorer, I'd prefer to use Chrome (due to the availability of certain plug-ins I'd like to use as part of this.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to a program that serves a similar function as Play The Web, but with better reliability/more customization? I've seen where there is a plug-in available for PowerPoint called LiveWeb that will allow for live webpages to be included as part of a slideshow, but this will not work with PowerPoint Viewer - I would need to burn an Office Pro key on a PC that ONLY needs the ability to play PowerPoint slideshows.
