High Ping times
I have an unusual problem. I have a computer that has Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and it is connected to a 40 mb up and down fiber connection. I am having trouble with extremely slow internet connections
When using the command window to check ping times they are normal in the 40 ms range.
When i use a web browser and go to sites like speedtest .net the ping times are 255 ms
I have rebuilt the tcp/ ip and winsock using netsh and i have uninstalled the firefox browser and uninstalled the nic driver and reinstalled it.
I am convinced since the ping times are good in the command window that the connection and nic are fine that the issue is in the windows 7 networking somewhere
Please help

It worked fine for me last week i also used the speedtest.zoomtown.com test site which is provided by the fiber provider and receive the same results

When i connect my laptop to the same cable it works fine and ping time on speedtest.net is 17ms
that is not the issue
that is not the issue

also the fact that when i am in the command prompt window the ping times are ok tells me that it is not a high broadcast computer on my network

no one came up with a solution so I kept working on it until I found one myself and thought others could benefit from it
It also could be the way Speedtest.net checks. Try Speedtest's sister site, Pingtest.net and see what you get for response, then post back.
