Excel time format to display "a" & "p" in place of AM & PM respectively

In Excel (2010), is there a way to create a custom time format to display:

"PM" as only a small "p" and
"AM" as only a small "a"?

I don't want 24:00 military time nor do I want any periods (e.g. a.m. or p.m.). I also don't want capital letters or the "M".

Some examples (of what I do want):

        "7:45 AM" would display as "7:45 a"
        "11:30 a.m." would display as "11:30 a"
        "2:15 PM" would display as "2:15 p"
        "2240" would display as "10:40 p"
        and so on...
