Offline Files Issues (Windows 8 - same sync setter as 7 i think)

Windows 8 Sync Center.  I started synchronizing some files offline and it worked well for a while.  I just realized that it says Disconnected.  I can't figure out how to reconnect.  It's been like this for a couple of weeks I think...

If I type \\SERVER, it only shows me the synchronized files.  I can ping and RDP onto the server.  Suggestions?

i performed these steps as suggested.  i was told that i do not have access to \\server\users\redirectedfolders\%username%\desktop and then my files on the desktop disappeared.

it says a sync is pending, but i'm getting nervous...  did i lose all of my offline files?  :/
