asked on

alerting via email

Hi Experts,

I have a server from DELL R610, and this one has an iDrac interface.
This interface is connected to my 175 subnet.
My subnet with the exchange server and SMTP server is 197

I want to configure email alerting but the problem is the different subnet.
I t is not working, can you help me out ?

That is a routing issue. You need to configure your router to allow the traffic to pass between the two subnets.
The other option would be to set the DRAC card to use an external SMTP Server, such as your ISP and let the email go out and come back in again.

ASKER

ok, we have cisco switches in the house and a 5510 asa firewall.
where to put the route ?
first you need the server on the subnet 175 to be able to route to the exchange server on subnet 197 (you can test it with a ping if the traffic is allowed)

then you need to allow your exchange server to accept connections from the dell server. can you please clarify the exchange version so that i can advise on this? if it's exchange 2010 go to server configuration, select the hub transport server and double click the appropriate receive connector (default or a custom one) that listens on port 25. add the dell server ip there.

finally you need to allow on the asa firewall traffic on port 25 between the servers. for troubleshooting you can create an all ports rule from one ip to the other. you can test the connection by telneting on port 25 from the dell to exchange.
we use Exchange 2007
