It would appear that I cannot migrate the storage on powered on VMs on an old version 2.5 vSphere cluster I have inherited to manage. We need to migrate all the VMs on it to new storage... am I going to have to power off all the VMs to do this?

I'm afraid so, if Migrate is not available from the menu, or does not function when the VMs are powered-up, you will need to schedule Service Outages, and Power Off the VMs, and perform Cold Migrations.

Well standard VMotion works but there is no option in the regular wizard to migrate the storage that I can see when the VMs are powered on...

Right Click the VM, and select Migrate ? (when the VM is ON!)
