OLE2.dll is not a valid windows image

Hello All,

I have another tough one today.  We have a program from General Motors called Chrome Autobook.  Ordinarily this installs without a hitch, but I have this one computer that is giving me issues.  I keep getting an error message that states:  ole2.dll is not a valid windows image.  I've done research and more research to no avail.

I even did a windows repair (XP Pro SP3), which broke Internet Explorer since it was on IE 8 before the repair.  So I had to manually uninstall IE8, then manually uninstall IE7, and then re-install all windows updates.  So IE is working again, but this pesky error will not allow me to complete installation.

I've found some programs out there that CLAIM to be able to fix dll errors, but they all look like scams to me that just want you to pay money.  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for (preferably) free programs that may be able to help?

    I've found this page:

But I don't know what it's telling me to do.  It says there is a fix:  CorrectVerInstallFile but it does not describe how to apply or utilize the fix.  Anyone know?

    Accepted Solution

Copy  ole2.dll  from a known-good PC of the same service pack level and put it in  c:\windows\system32  and  c:\windows\system32\dllcache   on the poorly PC.

    Then run
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\ole2.dll

Reboot for good measure and try again.
If any more errors, look in the System and Application event logs to see if there are further clues being logged there at the time.
