Two remarks:

1. I can't believe INDBC() isn't even mentioned in tek-tips thread. Also Berezniker just mentions it and then goes on with code not needing to open the DBC. Ok, but why would you need to be able to determine the DBF backlink to a DBC, without opening the DBC? Because it's open exxclusive elsewhere? Then you won't be able to open the DBF in many cases, too. It's really a very theoretical solution.

2. If you want to know this for the purpose of backing up only the files needed for a database, I'd not decide that technically by the membership of a dbf in a dbc or not. Developers keep things belonging to each other logically in a folder, even if they are not bound to each other "physically". You can have several free DBFs in a DBC folder that don't technically belong to the DBC, but still have data in them important to the DBC, for example SDT creates a free table or two with meta data about the DBC, for the purposes of repairing tables, recreating indexes etc.

Bye, Olaf.
