publicly verifying the creator of a website

is there a way of publicly verifying the creator of a website.

so i can prove i created a website.

I work for a company that make me put the company tag at the bottom of each website i create.

is there another method of doing it so i can get a credit for my design, but without showing it next to the company tag?

i dont want to put a comment in the html as they will look in there as we do SEO as well.

Another problem is that today i fond out that a sales staff member who left my company is trying to steal all the clients he signed when he worked for us, by calling them and pitching SEO to them.
he has been saying he built the websites i have made. but because he had the relationship with the client being the one we sold to them in the first place they trust him. how can i sign my work?? thanks

If you can insert the meta tags into the header, you can add a meta-author tag.  Please see the "view source" of this page:

You might also put identifying information in a data cell that is styled to be invisible, either by having a color matching the background or display:none.

I think I would go with the meta tag.  It's really indisputable evidence.  Here is an aggregate portfolio site from one of my students.  With the meta tags and something like this, you've got a pretty good web presence.

You might consider a blog where you write about what kind of sites you've authored.  Be sure to give your employer credit, too.
