Unable to install Windows updates on Server 2008 R2 base & Hyper-V virtual servers

I have a Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V base server as well as two Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V virtual servers that keep getting the error Code error Code 80072EE2 every time that I try to install Windows updates.

I was able to install Windows updates on the base server several times and then I would always reboot the server every time that the Windows updates were done installing.

I haven’t been able to install any Windows updates on the Hyper-V virtual Server 2008 R2 operating systems at all.

I have internet access and can access websites both from the Hyper-V base server and from the two Hyper-V virtual servers.

What exactly do I need to do to fix this issue so that I will be able to install the Windows updates on these three Server 2008 R2 server operating system?

First make sure you have installed the hyper-v extensions (or whatever they are called in hyper-v) on the VM's. Then also check that the time and date settings are correct inside the VM's. A wrong time and date will cause updates to fail.
