Canon DR 1210-C scanner and USB issues
I bought a Canon Scanner DR-1210C. Running Windows Vista.
Scanner shows up as installed on both the device manager (no excl. marks) and the control panel under "scanners and panels". Display on scanner shows "ready" but with an error icon that suggests (according to the canon manual) a usb problem.
The cord I am using did NOT come with the machine, but clearly says "usb 2.0" on it. My (older) Toshiba Satellite P200 specs say that I have USB v.2.0 ports.
The USB devices installed have NO exclamation points, read "enhanced" (Which i understand to be 2.0) and are all working properly. arrrr!!! frustration. Any ideas? See attached from user's manualCanon-Manual.pdf
I've also installed/uninstalled latest driver that I could find. AND re-booted the machine several times.

Good Point. I am test-riding the scanner from a dealer who agreed to sell it for a client. Again, my bet is on the environment also. I tried the "middle" driver and it wouldn't even load. I'm gonna buy a new cable and take it from there.

Hi Joe - I love irfanview! Tried to scan and it did not recognize the scanner. However, since I have started this process, my Scanners and Cameras 'function' on the control panel will not open. Earlier I had it opened and it showed the scanner. So now I'm trying to figure out how to get that reinstalled.
I bought a new cord - no change AND it occurred to me that if the Device Manager showed the device working properly, it would HAVE to have a good connection to the computer to even be able to tell me that.
any thoughts would be appreciated :-)

Joe - BTW, the dealer is one I trust and have a good working relationship with. However, good news, I think. I was able to go to Control Panel Home (not the classic view), click on hardware and sound and "Scan a document or picture" using Windows Fax and Scan.
Q: Do all scans go into jpeg format? I have to fax the pages I'm scanning to my home company and am wondering if they can "accept" jpeg images on the other end.

I will re-look for the driver at the link you provided and then my last idea was to buy a new cable!

Joe the driver site is the one I used; however 3 different drivers are listed and I'm not able to distinguish between them. I THINK I've installed the 1st and 3rd one and another not listed that I found with the file name: 'd871 mux.exe'. I will try the MIDDLE driver and see what happens! (Sort of like Goldilocks!)
