Veeam Backup - Freezing guest operating system

We are trying to backup our Exchange server using Veeam backup, but the server freezes. While its frozen we are seeing 95% CPU usage. The backup fails with the following error message:

[I1WHLBK01] Failed to open management RPC connection to proxy service. Port: '6162'. The RPC server is unavailable RPC function call failed. Function name: [InvokerTestConnection]. Target machine: [192.168.1.1].

The windows firewall is turned off on the exchange server.

Right now is the least busy time of the week (Sunday). It's storage is a NetApp.

When you say Snapshot the Exchange Server, do you mean from vSphere side?

When you say Quicese Option -- where is that (Veeam I'm assuming?). I went into the job properties of this "Exchange backup" job, and did not find such an option.
Yes VMware Snapshot, and tick the Q... option, you will see this in Snapshot Manager?

does this suceed?
Yes. No prolems. Just out of curiousity, what does Quiesce option do?
it instructs VMware Tools in the VM, to use the VSS writers to Q... the OS, so you have a good backup.

the VM does not currently haveva snapshot?
