Allow external users to relay through exchange 2010

Hi we need to allow associates who have an email account on an SBS2011 box (which they access via POP3) to relay mail via the same server.  At present they cannot relay - they get '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay'.

I assume that a new connector is required for this, but am unsure of how to set this up to allow external relay without compromising the security of Exchange.

Thanks.

Follow the advice in the following guide and make sure you restrict access to just your associates IP or you will be an Open Relay:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232021.aspx

Create a new Receive Connector then allow it to relay.  2 simple steps.

Thanks for that Alan - but the problem we have is that all the associates are home based and are using ADSL connections with dynamic IPs.  Ideally what I would like to do is to allow them to relay, but to authenticate before doing so.

Thanks Alan - I think OWA is going to have to be the way forward as not all associates have Outlooks - thanks.
