Display screen faint on HP Pavilion dv4-1220 entertainer laptop

Am working on customer's HP Pavilion dv4.  Works fine except no backlight.  I saw it was difficult to replace backlight on this model and instead changed entire screen assembly for a new one.
To be safe I changed the inverter board as well.
NOW, I get exactly the same problem as before!  NEW screen w/backlight, NEW inverter and still only a faint image using flashlight.  Display is perfect on external monitor!
Lighted HP logo on outside of lid flashed on and off erratically both before and now.
I've ordered a new main video cable, but doubt this will have any effect.  Any ideas on this?
Someone else on another forum suggested the main video cable change.  Frustating!
Thanks for you help.

with faint you mean barely discernable ?
so it's not like it's running from battery alobne in energy saving mode ?  (you can check theses)

It is running on full A/C input with battery (good) in place as well.  The only problem is the backlight (ccfl) is not working.  Works perfectly with external monitor, so it is a display problem.  All wires & cables are connected, has new screen assembly with new backlight and has a new inverter of the correct type.  By faint I mean just that.  You can see the normal images on screen with a strong flashlight at an angle, but otherwise nearly indecernable. It is exactly as it was prior to installing the new parts!

I'm wondering if this could be the lid switch?  I haven't been able to find out if it is magnetic or mechanical, different sources report different setups on this.  So far I haven't even seen it, or didn't recognize it if I did?  Anyone have a lead on this or anything else?
